“And whatever you do, work heartily, as working for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance, for you serve the Lord Christ.”
Colossians 3:23-24
We have already been serving in the Naranjos Honduras community for 8 months, time passes very quickly, we are getting along very well with the community, the customs and different ways of doing things.
I work at VidaNet as a staff in the green areas and gardening. I am also helping with the large new construction project and in different ways to help in the local church and form relationships in the community.
We have a lot of work here in Los Naranjos both in VidaNet, as well as in the church and community. A few months ago we started a construction project which has been a large investment of time and resources. God has been faithful, we have made at least 60% progress. We hope that this new place will be a great blessing for the churches and community, hoping that everything we do is to glorify God.
For every Christian, it can be easy to fall into the trap of working for men, wanting to please them, and although we may not admit it, we want our efforts to be recognized and appreciated. How would our work ethic change if we stopped seeking man’s approval and started seeking God’s? And what if our heavenly treasures were rewards enough for us? When we work for His glory, we are freed from a burden. We are reminded that the results depend on Him, and that He is the one who gives us the ability to work in the first place, causing the desire for recognition to fade. We are grateful to be able to begin to see the fruits of the work in which God has allowed us to participate.
In the church we are working with we have seen how the Lord has supplied both financially and with workers to build a small place to meet, although it is not yet complete, it fills us with joy to be able to see the willingness of the people even when the economic situation is difficult for many. They are always willing to help when we are working on the construction of the church, many even after their finishing work or on their days off have helped us without expecting anything in return. Thanks to work projects we can begin good relationships with the people of the community and by the grace of God some families have chosen to join us in the Sunday services. Thank God for what he does and for what he will continue to do in this beautiful community.
