Do you ever meet someone and think to yourself “that person is a great example of Jesus”? Well, that’s what I think when I think of Lourdes, a mother of 9 in the community of Pena Blanca. Each time we would walk past her house or see her around the community she would invite us into her house to eat, drink coffee, & share in community with her family.
It’s common in Honduras to not have a steady income and this was the case with Lourdes & her family. However, she always gave us all that she had. What a great example of giving your neighbor the last piece of bread, trusting that God will provide every need!
This is a lesson that God made so evident during our time in Honduras. Often times I have found myself thinking too much about what I will eat today or tomorrow, thinking about my needs rather than the needs of others. After seeing and experiencing the way that others serve, love & give us all that they have, I have been impacted to make a permanent change in my life and in the way I serve others. My hope is to not only be like Loundres in this way but to be like Jesus in the way he serves and loves those around him.
We were able to spend a lot of time with Lourdes and her family, including this trip to a nearby waterfall. We thank God for these genuine friendships in the community.
