Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go. Joshua 1:9
As I ponder God’s provision this past year, I am so grateful for the opportunity God has given me to serve here with VidaNet. I learned about VidaNet about 7 years ago when my adopted son came to be a student in Vida220. When I visited him, I thought to myself,
“I really like this place, this ministry, and these people”, but that’s about where I left it. In my church here in the jungle in Costa Rica, I served in the outdoor kitchen and other church activities, but I had a desire to serve beyond there. I still had my kids living at home with me, so I had to lay the desire to work with VidaNet at the feet of the Lord and wait for his perfect timing.
Years passed, and about 3 months ago, my sister-in-law came to tell me VidaNet was looking for a cook. Before she even finished, I shouted,
“I will! I will! Tell them that I will do it!” As we continued the conversation she asked,
“But how will you do it? How will you leave your house and everything else that you have here?”
“I don’t care. I’m going,” I declared, trusting that the Lord would provide all that I need to bring honor and glory to His name at VidaNet. Less than one week later I arrived at the VidaNet base as cook.
God has been so kind in allowing me to serve joyfully in this ministry. It’s more than just cooking; I am part of the community of many cultures seeking Jesus at VidaNet. During my first three months here, God has done wonders in healing my heart, teaching me to seek him more, and helping me to serve with integrity. It has been a blessing to see the young Vida220 students grow in their hunger for God and strive to be examples for the community around them. As I watch them, I am also filled with the desire to do just what they are doing: to be an example for all that I know. As I serve here, I have been able to put into practice Joshua 1:9, to be strong and courageous and to not be dismayed, because I know that my Lord my God is with me wherever I go.
